How Debt Settlement Works
Debt Settlement
Debt Help USA offers a debt settlement program in which our debt experts negotiate with your creditors in order to settle the debt for less than what you owe. There is no upfront fee for our Debt Settlement Service.
Whether it's a credit card debt settlement program or one that includes other debts, we advise you stop paying your creditors. Instead, monthly payments should be sent to the debt settlement company. The funds are then deposited into a trust account. Once enough funds are accumulated, we negotiate with your creditors and attempt to stop all collection efforts.
Whether it is credit card settlement or settlement to pay off personal loans, medical bills or other debts, it usually takes 2-4 years to complete the program. The period of completion depends upon your total debt amount. Once we negotiate, and settle with your creditors, they may not come after you for the balance. In fact It is illegal for them to do so in many states.
When the debt settlement companies start negotiating, the creditor may not send it to collections and agree to accept a partial payment. The creditor then reports your account status to the credit bureaus, such that it appears on your credit report as "Settled charge off" which is less negative than a bankruptcy on your credit report. Thus, Credit Card Debt settlement or settlement on any other debt hurts your credit score for the time being. Yet, after the account is paid off, your credit will improve gradually if you consistently make on-time payments towards other debts and liability.
